Jehovah’s Witness and Bible thumpers like to continually harp on the scientific accuracy of the Bible as proof it was written by God. In an earlier post, I debunked the notion that the bible said the Earth was round before science proved it and when most people though it was flat, a little biblical factoid the Witnesses like to crow about.
Recently I was on a JW Q&A, where as per usual, I stir shit up. It’s a gift. I asked if Jesus was wrong when he said in Mark 4:31:
“Like a mustard grain, which at the time it was sown in the ground was the tiniest of all the seeds that are on the earth” New World Translation.
The American Standard Version says: “It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, though it be less than all the seeds that are upon the earth,”
The New English Bible says “It is like a mustard seed that when sown in the ground, even though it is the smallest of all the seeds in the ground”
The King James Version says: “is less than all the seeds that be in the earth”.
The New Jerusalem Bible says “It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth.
“The Catholic Douay Version says: ” It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:”
Jesus was apparently using the illustration that good things can come from a very small beginning, or something like that. His point is irrelevant. The real point is the glaring scientific inaccuracy of his statement. In fact the mustard seed in not the tiniest, smallest or “less” than all the seeds “in the earth”, “on earth” or “upon the earth”. Since they are some of the loudest Bible pounders, I’ll let the Jehovah’s Witnesses elaborate.“So Jesus was not “teaching a lesson in botany.” Well, In Isaiah, Chap 20 where the Witnesses point to God looking at the “circle” of the earth as proof the bible is scientifically accurate, is God there giving an Astronomy lesson? I’ve already debunked that piece of disinformation, but they jump on it as proof of the Bible’s authorship.
From the Watchtower of 5/15/92, page 5:
Botany: Some wrongly conclude that the Bible is inaccurate because Jesus Christ spoke of “a mustard grain” as “the tiniest of all the seeds.” (Mark 4:30-32) Likely, Jesus meant the seed of the black mustard plant (Brassica nigra or Sinapis nigra), which is only about 0.039 to 0.063 inch [1 to 1.6 mm] in diameter. Though there are smaller seeds, such as fine-as-powder seeds of the orchid, Jesus was not talking to people who grew orchids. Those Galilean Jews knew that of the various types of seeds sown by local farmers, the mustard seed was the tiniest. Jesus was talking about the Kingdom, not teaching a lesson in botany.
Is the fact the that he was “not teaching a lesson in botany” give him license to state a provable unscientific fact? What would be the point? Jesus was wrong. The mustard seed is not the smallest seed in creation. The seed of the orchid is. But God and/or God’s son, (choose your own theology) didn’t know this fact or chose to state a scientific inaccuracy. He could have said the mustard sees is “one of the smallest”, is “among” the smallest or that it simply “is very small”. His audience would have gotten the sense of his illustration. It was not important for him to say “It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth.” The fact that it was very small and recognized for being so by his audience would have been sufficient for him to make his point. He didn’t say that. He said the smallest seed in creation. Science proves otherwise.
Jesus was wrong. The brain dead, delusional religious morons on the Q&A responded as expected. In order to believe in and have faith in things you cannot see, you have to suspend your ability to think critically, analytically and logically. No where was this more apparent than in the responses to my post.“You’re nit picking!!” they cried, accusatorily wagging the cyber finger of divine justice in my face. Hey, I didn’t say Jesus was God/God’s son and thus perfect and all knowing, they did. I don’t believe the Bible is God’s word or that Jesus ever lived. But, if he is wrong, just once he is not, by definition perfect. He was wrong. Don’t kill the messenger. Explain the verse, answer the question.
“It’s not important. It’s the message”. Bullshit, it is important, it’s very important. If the opposite was true, you can bet your ass the JW’s and every other delusional Bible thumper would be screeching about how the Bible was so scientifically accurate. “How could Jesus know that the, mustard seed was the smallest in the whole earth unless he had that divine knowledge? See, the Bible is from God!!!”
Do you want to talk about nit picking? Get in on the argument about John 1:1. They will argue endlessly over the notion that Jesus was “a” god, or Jesus was “the” God. The nit picking charge, is itself not relevant, as most Bible controversies are, by definition, nit picking. Brilliant men, spend there lives pouring over ancient manuscripts to answer such “nit picky” questions.
“Oh, but you have to take his comment about the mustard seed in context. His audience knew it to be the smallest seed, so it made sense to them”
Well, who is Jesus’ audience? Do Jehovah’s Witnesses and other modern day Christians think of themselves as Jesus audience? Does Jesus talk to you through the pages of the Bible? Was Jesus not capable of thinking ahead and realizing that a future audience, with accurate botanical knowledge may know that indeed the mustard seed is not the smallest seed “in the world”?
Would it not, then in the much broader context, have made sense for the all knowing Jesus to say “one of the smallest seeds in the WHOLE earth? Or, is the Bible, not from God, written by men, who at that time thought the mustard seed indeed was the smallest seed in the whole earth?
If you’re a Christian, you better be able to reconcile in your own mind that Jesus made a provable scientific error here and therefore is not perfect. If you choose to ignore the obvious, than you have surrendered all you critical, logical and analytical thinking skills, to what ever authority figure you’ve attached yourself to. How many Christians who read this will actually think about it, research it and give it an honest appraisal. Few, if any.
Most Christians will dismiss me as a ranting, demon possessed hater of God, whose primary purpose in life is to rob them of their precious relationship with the Almighty, to screw up their chances of salvation. Well, you can rest easy about me. I don’t give a flying fuck what you believe or weather you live or die. In other words, I care as much about you as you do about me.
The real funny thing is that all you hopelessly delusional competing groups of “Christians” think every other group is trying to do what you accuse me of, rob you of your salvation, block your entrance to heaven, turn you against Jesus/God.
And you’re right! To, Jehovah’s Witnesses, if you ain’t one of them, God is going to kill you. The Baptists think all the Witnesses are going to hell. The Catholics, as enunciated by Pope Benedict think all none Catholic Churches are counterfeit. You all think your right and God is going to punish everyone else.
This is a fine kettle of fish, as my old grandma would say.
Hoards of delusional, or worse self delusional assholes, frantically running in circles, trying to please their version of God as given the them by their Authority Figure. Who claims exclusive communication with the Almighty, who incidentally probably failed botany class.
In my fantasy, I picture myself sitting on the periphery of your circle in a beach chair drinking a Corona, watching you all frantically chase after salvation, Occasionally I will put out my foot and trip one of you with a post like the above. It’s just fun to watch you flail and fall face down into the sand.
Religion is such bull shit. I mean , com’on!!!

Great post. Jesus made a very human and understandable error. It’s not a big deal except that it shows he was either an imperfect human or the invention of imperfect humans.
August 23, 2009 at 10:30 pm |
Jesus doesn’t make errors. He is the Son of God. We all will be judged. He came to earth so we would be forgiven all our sins, What a great God we ahve. We are not perfect. But God is.
October 24, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Wow, it is amazing how deep the brainwashing goes with these people. They are nothing but hollow automatons now spouting off about god is perfect and our sins. Don’t they realize “sins” we invented to make sure they were always guilty and needed to come back to the church for some “relief.” It is amazing how 50%+ Americans believe Jesus will come back to earth in their lifetime. See they want the world to end so they can be the ones that were “right.” Loony is one lable to puton this but I think anyone hoping and praying for the worlds end is truly evil.
May 21, 2009 at 4:18 pm |
I agree. If the Bible and/or Jesus is wrong just once, than the book is not perfect.
Perfection is 100%
August 23, 2009 at 10:31 pm |
Jesus is perfect and the bible is 100% true and perfect. It is the word of God
August 28, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Rose,
The Bible is rife with blatant and appalling injustice and intolerance. Do you really agree with that?
The Bible was written by man, and what’s more, it was written by man in a time when people who were writing it down would change things so it reflected their own beliefs.
You can’t honestly believe that man didn’t make errors in writing the Bible. That’s just ridiculous.
October 24, 2009 at 8:42 pm
It’s worse that that. It was written by many men. Celibate men. And then it was revised thousands of times by other celibate men, ripping out whole chapters and rewriting others. It is perhaps the most imperfect literary work in history, with changes put in based on the politics of the time.
October 30, 2009 at 5:20 pm
The bible was not written by god, there are many facts that support this ask any true theologist and they will tell you religion was invented to control the masses.
November 12, 2009 at 5:02 pm
You have got to be kidding me, Rose. You are one of the many totally freaking brainwashed assholes that come from all the churches. They tell everyone who doesn’t go to church and kiss the preachers ass that they are sinners and are going to burn in hell. well, you know what, I am going to live MY life exactly how I want to, and I am SO sick and tired of all the hypocritic and stereotypeing bible thumpers out there basically telling me I am a peiece of shit, my life isn’t worth anything, and that just because they go to church they are so much better than me.
May 23, 2009 at 5:21 pm |
Well, I believe that Jesus was a metaphysician. He was very good at it. He even convinced his followers that he had been nailed to a cross, when in fact it wasn’t even him. He wasn’t about to become a martyr for a system that neither He nor God really wanted. Peter denied that he knew who was being taken away from the garden of Gethsemane , because it wasn’t Jesus.
During that period in history there were many who thought they were the messiah. It was easy to find one to take the place of Jesus. Drug him, hang him on a cross, instant martyr and saviour. Died for our sins? I know what comes next, why was Mary M and Mary the Mother there? They felt sorry for the guy.
Jesus spoke through metaphysical thought. Many of the things were of a metaphysical nature. When he said that “God is within you” thats what he ment. God is not out there somewhere in heaven, he is in everything. Everything you see, touch, feel, smell or think is consciousness and God is that consciousness.
It is complicated but obvious. Am I going to hell? No as there isn’t such a thing. There isn’t any sin either, just some bad karma. On the positive side there is good karma as well.
May 23, 2009 at 7:14 pm |
God thoughts, Leo.
Historically, the Jews were looking for the Messiah about this time. I would think it likely that the biblical Jesus is an amalgum of various messiah characters that actually existed along with some made up shit the Bible writers inserted.
August 23, 2009 at 10:33 pm |
Jesus is the Messiah and all who do not believe will go not to heaven. You can have your opinion, but you will find out you are wrong.Jesus died on the Cross for all our sins.
October 24, 2009 at 8:45 pm |
Yes, the whole “dier for our sins” thing never made sense. I mean it makes sense if you have already parked your intellect as these finatics have done. But what the heck does that mean? god needed a sacrifice in exchange for not sending innocent people to hell anymore? What the hell kind of god is that anyway? Sounds like a pretty bloodthirsty sadistic one to me.
May 23, 2009 at 8:33 pm |
They hurl insults at you because they cannot fathom a world outside of their little “god box”. It takes those qualities or abilities you mentioned to be able to look at this particular argument and say, “you know what? you have a valid point. I need to go over everything I “know” and see if it holds any weight.” … No, critical thought and reasoning skills have left the building, if they were ever there to begin with.
Don’t despair, my friend. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make her drink. I think you get a rush by challenging them. I hope that’s all you’re looking for because it is more courageous to pull back the curtain of Oz (or the matrix) and declare bamboozlement than it is to follow the herd. Most of those you encounter are unable to stand on their own.
Speaking of following the herd … somewhere else on this blog you mentioned the broad and spacious road. They have no clue what that really means. Anytime you can find enough people who think like you to count on both hands or more, you’re on a broad and spacious road. You can’t have a group of, what is it? 6 million? You can’t have that large a group and think you’re on the straight and narrow. And that’s just one direction I can take that in.
Herd … Sheep … they’re proud of being sheep. Poor things get led to the slaughter often; both the animal and the persons identifying with that mindset.
Don’t stop banging the gong, though. Even if 99% of them call you names and walk in the opposite direction, clinging to their security blankets, you’re bound to wake someone up. Someone is bound to say, I can’t take this stupidity anymore.
A quote I found that illustrates this point nicely: (paraphrased and the original person won’t get credit cause I can’t find it) “It is the nature of humans to walk the road forged by others who came before them while throwing rocks at those who forge a different path.”
Blessed Be,
Jaguar Zaji

Sorry Leo, but what a bunch of bullshit.
No such thing as sin?
So some pervert scum takes and rapes a child and then buries them alive, and that’s not sin?
Take another hit from your bong dude.

Dude, God deals with them in his own way. Never did get into drugs, 20 years in the military no way was I going to loose my pension by being stupid. Oh well, nice try on the slam.

I can’t help myself, I have to make another comment. I try very hard to not be judgemental. However it strikes me that narrow minded people often go for the crazy, drug induced, alcohol, demented etc. ploy. When it is something that they don’t understand or dosn’t fit into thier own little reality package. I’m sure you believe in original sin as well as sins of our fathers. So we take the hit for something we ourselves didn’t do! Karma is a much better fit, it’s something that you and you alone are responsible for.

May 29, 2009 at 11:52 am |
My comments have been awaiting moderation for the past three days. Is this blog now censoring comments?
Is it something I said? My comment was for Bill who thinks I’m some sort of deranged druggie. Since we are into this, I have 2 secular degrees from an acredited university , a Bachelor of Science as well as a Bachelor of Arts. However it is also true that I will have a Bachelor of Divinity from a Metaphysical University within the next 2 months.
November 12, 2009 at 5:20 pm |
What the hell. NO ONE cares how nerdy you are!!! Not all druggies are “deranged”. You say you have never done drugs? So then what the hell would you know about them. You sure as hell don’t get the full affects from reading a textbook. Dumbass!!

isnrblog (& others)-
I found this interesting from this website on “religous statistics”-
Jehovah’s Witnesses have the lowest retention rate of any religious tradition. Only 37% of all those who say they were raised as Jehovah’s Witnesses still identify themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses.
June 1, 2009 at 11:38 pm |
I really didn’t think you would censor my comments or maybe you havn’t gotten around to moderating it. Which is it?
Leo
If my metaphysics is too much just let me know.
June 5, 2009 at 6:02 pm |
I don’t censor any comments. I was just busy. In fact, I wm going to change it so comments do not need approval
June 6, 2009 at 2:30 am |
sorry to be a pain in the ass, however ol’Bill really pissed me off. Of course he is still one of God’s creations and entitled to his opinion. If he would get in touch with his consciousness he might have a better understanding.
There is no sin, no hell and no evil spirits. the only sin or hell is that which you bring upon yourself.
June 16, 2009 at 7:16 am |
Sorry if I offended you Leo, but your arrogance pissed me off. You pass off you beliefs as fact and not just articles of your own faith.
You zeroed in on the insult to deflect the comment I made.
“No such thing as sin?
So some pervert scum takes and rapes a child and then buries them alive, and that’s not sin?”
August 23, 2009 at 10:36 pm |
THere is a hell and there are spirits. Good and bad. I am very spiritual and I have the Holy Spirit in me. I know things b4 they happen. Satan is on the earth.
November 12, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Oh yeah there are spirits, there are ghosts everywhere. LMAO! YOU have the holy spirit in YOU???? I just read that EVERYONE is god’s creation, so that means everyone has the holy spirit in them, right. OR is it just because you, Rose, go to church and kiss god’s and everyone elses ass. That is exactly what I meant in my comment earlier.
June 16, 2009 at 4:45 pm |
I understand as I get really involved in things of a spiritual nature. I have it on good authority that God in fact deals with those who murder both with intent and even those who kill out of self defense. Taking a human life is the one thing that God will not easly forgive. He will not send them to hell as there is no such thing. I know what you’ll say to that, but if you think it through you’ll perhaps see that God created us out of consciousness why would he destroy the things that he gave life to? Makes no sense, hell is simply made up in ones own mind and with the help of the church becomes your reality.
The church uses such nonsese to keep the followers in line. If you do wrong you’ll go to hell. If you don’t tithe you’ll go to hell if you don’t do what we tell you …..well on and on.
We are truly eternal spiritual beings. You know that reincarnation thing. you’ll probably say nay to that as well. Check it out, many things point in that direction, it just goes against our christian upbringing, if you will. We have many opportunities to get it right not just one. If more people believed in reincarnation how many would show up for sunday service?
Obviously this blog caught your attention. So if you are seeking the truth, you might try looking into your inner consciousness and be ready to listen to that quiet voice.
Blessings

Hi there
I’m a Christian who came across this post in a search. You make some good points, but here are some more things to consider. I’m not trying to disprove you, but the issue is a little more nuanced than what you present.
- the Greek word for “earth” can be translated “land.” Because of this, many people believe the judgments in Revelation concern the whole world when they only concern the first century Jews and the Roman empire (at least up to chapter 19). It is the Land of Israel that is the focus. So, perhaps a mustard seed was the smallest seed they were familiar with in first century Palestine (I don’t know).
- Jesus was a master orator, and used many figures of speech, and very many direct quotations and subtle allusions from the Old Testament. Compare Matthew 24 with Isaiah 13 for instance. Jesus is calling first century Judaism “Babylon” but most Christians don’t get it. They think Matthew 24 is about the end of the world. It is, but in context (ch 23-25) it is the end of the Jewish world in AD70. So calling a mustard seed the “smallest” is not beyond standard oration when you are making a point. It may even have been common phraseology.
- The JWs and Catholics teach that people are saved by a mixture of faith and works, not just faith. But the Bible teaches that when we believe we are given salvation as a free gift, and the results are good works in our lives. I believe anyone who is trusting in their own goodness has no hope before God. This is why Jesus kept his sharpest condemnations for the religious hypocrites of his day, the ones who maintained a veneer of righteousness but were only after public acclaim and money. He welcomed people who had done wrong but wanted to leave sin behind. And he was condemned for this. True Christianity is freedom, not bondage, but there will always be Pharisees. It’s human nature.
I agree with you that many religious folk are not the brightest. But this applies to people in any worldview camp. If Christians have offended you I am deeply sorry.
If you are interested in a first century interpretation of Jesus’ prophecies, I have plenty of material on my blog and website. I welcome sincere questions. I have probably had most of the same questions myself.
July 12, 2009 at 3:03 pm |
Mike;
Thanks for your comment.
I am sure the mustard seed was perhaps the smallest seed that the people of the time were aware of. But, Jesus made a patently inncorrect statement. You have to consider the fact that if all the Bible says is true, Jesus would have been aware that modern man, with a better understanding of botany, would also be his audience and would know his statement was wrong.
He could have easily said that the mustard seed was “one of” or “among” the smallest seeds and got his point across without making a patently false statement.
I don’t now and did not while a Jehovah’s Witness see where Jesus was a master orator. There are many quotes atributed to him, but nothing outstanding. With the exception of course of those that wer accompanied by some sort of miracle. Again, any of the dialog atributed to Jesus is not extrodinary, no is it provable he even said it or in fact that he ever existed.
Obviously, “Christianity” happened around the first Century and by 325 AD, to keep order in the Empire, Constantine had the Counsil of Nicea where they settled religious issues by merging the relgion of the Romans, with Chritianity and created the state sponsered Catholic Church.
There is no need for you to offer me an appolgy on behalf of other Christians. I respect your right to believe in whatever you wish and appreciate intelligent dialog.
I will ck out your blog. I am very open minded (I know, you can’t tell from my posts) and appreciate well thought out points.
I am not saying I am right/ I am simply saying I don’t know and so far it seems no one else does either.
Thanks again for you comments.
Mike, what is your blog address? If you would post it here so my readers can visit.
Thanks

The bible is not bullshit! We all will be judged. You can have an opinion, but you should read the bible. God is everythihg to me.
November 12, 2009 at 5:28 pm |
OH, a bible thumper just cursed. That just ruined your perfect record. Off to hell with you now. LOL!!! I will now and always have an opinion, and your stupid comments won’t change them. I have read the bible, and it is a total fake.
August 23, 2009 at 4:29 am |
I TOTALY agree – THE BIBLE IS JUST A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT!!!
August 24, 2009 at 12:00 am |
I could not have said it better.
August 23, 2009 at 10:27 pm |
I do care about the person who wrote this. He says we don’t care God cares. He says he doesn’t care if pple live or die, but God’s children cares if he lives or dies. Maybe he has had a hard life. But we must all have faith to go through hardships to become stronger and love ourselves as God loves us. Without God I am nothing. The Bible is th etrue word of God. You can have your opinion. THis person who wrote this should really think about what he has written. God will judge all. Satan is on Earth and he will try anything to get us away from almighty God. Bless you who wrote this. Read the word it will change your life. I want eternal salvation. Not to go to hell.
August 24, 2009 at 12:05 am |
Rose,
There is no proof that the Bible is from God or that Jesus ever lived.
Religious people believe in things they could not possibly know.
Religion needs faith because it has no facts.
Try to use reason instead of believing the delusion. Your faith is meaningless as the guys who crashed those planes on 9/11 had undeniable faith.
Does that make them right? Funny, they have the same arguement as you do, also no proof, no facts.
November 12, 2009 at 5:34 pm |
How do we know YOU are not saten, ROSE???? You can’t proof that, can you? What about evolution? Do you believe in that Rose? I bet you don’t and it’s probably because you are a high maintinence priss who has had nothing go wrong in her life, and the thought of being evolved from monkeys repolses you just as mich as the thought of having wonderful sex with you boyfriend (if you have one) before you are married.
August 28, 2009 at 8:03 pm |
I agree that the Bible is a load of crock. I have nothing against religion or being religious (or spiritual, for that matter), but sometimes I think people’s beliefs can be a bit absurd.
And another thing, I don’t understand how people think nothing of it when they hear that someone believes in God, creationism, and divinity, but would send another person to the loony bin if they said the believed in sorcery. From my point of view, they’re on the same level.
November 12, 2009 at 5:36 pm |
i completely agree. Again, it’s all because bible thumpers think they are SO much better than everyone else when they are NOT!!!
September 23, 2009 at 2:49 am |
I was raised catholic. I went to religion classes till I was 18. If given the choice I never would have gone for a couple of reasons. One, the bible anyone reads today is an edited form. Most people don’t even take the time to really research their own religion, they just follow what they are told to, follow, instead of asking questions. Second, almost every person I have ever met that is catholic is a hypocrite. Deep down people are cold and heartless and really only care about themselves. Whether you talk about others behind their backs, judge those that you have no right to judge (homosexuals, race, gender, ethnic and/or other religious backgrounds, wealth, social class). Do you say anything when others are being picked on? abused? I believe in a God because everything is too complicated in how things are made in the world that it’s just impossible that there isn’t a “creator”. I don’t have much faith in our own people though because there is a lack of humanity in today’s age. But the Bible/God/Jesus is just a scapegoat for people to lean on when they feel guilty about the way they act towards others. You only have yourself to blame in the end and must learn from your mistakes and just confessing your sin and thinking that is enough is complete bs. Our race needs to grow up and be accountable for our own actions without relying on a religion to make us feel better about ourselves. Our race is going nowhere but down…we should be evolving and yet we backtrack. what a waste.
September 26, 2009 at 10:41 pm |
lyndsey, good post.
September 26, 2009 at 9:48 pm |
LOL at rose. All the religious people say that shit about how they can feel the holy spirit. If you really have this “holy spirit” inside you, and he is so perfect, why is your grammar less than perfect? At the article I totally agree. The religinazis claim that the bible is perfect yet there are many imperfections. My gripe with the bible is that it says that humans are imperfect beings full of sin, but the bible is perfect even though it was written by an imperfect being. Also rose, you say that you would be nothing without god. I find that very, very, very depressing. You say everyone needs faith to deal with life, I don’t. Do you know why? Because I can man up and handle the challenges life throws at me. I don’t just take the easy way out and blame it on a red dickhead with a pitchfork and pray to an old ass man with a beard. Also concerning the devil and evil, if god is all powerful why doesn’t he just smite the devil? If god is real then why in the fuck are children suffering in almost every country on earth. WHERE IN THE FUCK IS YOUR GOD THERE? Does he have bigger shit to worry about? Or is it just that Africa is full of non-believers? Why don’t you tell me? God is a disease, thrust upon mankind and created to control people like you. I’m sorry if this seems like a personal attack, I am just so sick of Christians having this BS sense of entitlement. Wake up, there are millions of religions in the world, all have zero real evidence to support them. So guess what? There is only a fractional chance you are right.
September 26, 2009 at 10:46 pm |
LOL, Jimbo.
Poor Rose can’t seem to wrap her deluded mind around “Gee, there is no proof what I believe is true”
Rose, love ya’. My advice:…start…drinking…heavely.
The only thing drinking doesn’t fix is alcohalism.
September 28, 2009 at 6:37 pm |
How can the Bible be perfect if what is said in it cannot be true? It was written as truth according to the state of people’s best knowledge or belief of what was considered to be knowledge at the time. In the Bible it is said that earth is the center of creation and that the Sun revolves around the Earth and all the stars were spread along a “firmament” which was somthing like a blanket in the sky above the Earth which conceals the kingdom of heaven behind it. in the book of Revelations in the Bible it says that this firmament will roll back like a scroll revealing the thrown of God and heaven.
Today we know damned good and well that the stars are giant balls of burning gas and matter that are many even milions of light years away. A lightyear is the is the distance it takes light to travel in a year. It travels at over 186,000 miles per second. Can you even say that in a second?
What I am trying to say here is that the Bible simply cannot be the word of the divine God who is the creator of all creation, because what it says is suppose to be accurately true.
If the Bible is the literal word if God, then God would have to be a lier and the word of God itself is all lies.

I agree Shawn. There are way to many inconsistancies, innacurate scientific statements and such for this to be a book from God.
Also, since 40% of the worlds adult population cannot read, why would an almighty God choose to communicate his will via the written word?
Makes no sense.

You can’t convey that to religious people though, they don’t listen to logic. To them exorcism > internal medicine lol.

I must say this is one of the most intelligent posts about the subject matter I have read. After growing up with religious family members, and witnessing the hypocrisies, I could not be a part of it. I understand people have their “faith” which is fine, but don’t try and back it up with logic. Religion is all complete bullshit, and causes nothing but problems. Thanks again for this thread.

Thanks, Joseph.
I think most people are fed up with religious hypocrisy.

The Bible is a rip off of Mithraism and Zoroastrianism which leads you to KEMETICISM in Egypt (the founder of it all). The virgin birth, resurrection, trinity, all of it is ALREADY TOLD 3 centuries before Genesis was even written!! Do the research.. it’s a load of shit. Just TRY and debunk it to all you who are too fucking ignorant to pick up a book and read for yourself and let man lead you blindly.

P.S. If you really wanna kick knowledge, the only Jesus known to the Jews was Jehoshua Ben-Pandira, who had learnt the arts of magic in Egypt, and who was put to death by them as a sorcerer. This was likewise the only Jesus known to Celsus, the writer of the “True Logos,” a work which the Christians managed to get rid of bodily, with so many other of the anti-Christian evidences.
Celsus observes that he was not a pure Word, not a true Logos, but a man who had learned the arts of sorcery in Egypt. So, in the Clementines, it is in the character of Ben-Pandira that Jesus is said to rise again as the magician. But here is the conclusive fact: The Jews know nothing of Jesus, the Christ of the Gospels, as an historical character; and when the Christians of the fourth century trace his pedigree, by the hand of Epiphanius, they are forced to derive their Jesus from Pandira!
EDUCATE YOURSELF. Religion is control at it’s best, creating division and hate. If any of you fanatics out there believed in any of that shit for real you would follow LOVE and not preach your fucking psycho babble hate. With that said,
PEACE+LOVE

Wow, Easily Deciphered, that is some deep stuff!
I have some more reading to do. I have read some about Jehoshua Ben-Pandira, but the other stuff is new.
Yes, knowledge leeds to freedom. However, people seem to like to be controlled or submit to someone who will do their thinking for them.

“Jimbo”,
Honestly, If you think being a Christian and believing in God is the easy way out, your out of your mind. We are the people living in the world not just for ourselves, but for something bigger than us. This is isn’t an attack on you.
JESUS LOVES YOU,
and always will, whether you like it or not.

Tina, I was a JW for 50 years and no being a Christian is not easy. JW’s think of themselves as the only true Christians.
I am at peace with myself for the first time in my life. I do not fret and lose sleep over displeasing God. My eyes have been opened to the contradcitions and hypocrisy in religion and the perposterous, inprovable notion that the Bible is from God.
Being a Christian is hard for many people because of the inner conflict they feel when known facts colide in their heads, with long held beliefs.
Research “cognitive dissonance”.

Jessica, some funny stuff.
Yes, with no proof the Bible thumpers wrap their lives around an improvable book and try to thrust it at the rest of us.

LOL I think who ever wrote this has some issues. I believe the author of this blog feels betrayed by God in some way like most people do and is trying to find anyway possible to destroy the mere existence of God by showing God to be a liar.
Personally I know that’s not true. I know that God exists and that Jesus is the Son of God and He exists.
I don’t think anyone should be forced to hear the words of God in the Bible….BUT I do know that one day this will all be over and one of us will be right.
In the end he may be right and there is no God and we all just sit in the ground…or I may be right and we have a place with God after this for those who follow His word. If I’m right then this guy loses more than he bargained for in eternity and more than likely he doesn’t care…but he will!
So if I am wasting my time in my faith at least I can know in peace that I hoped and I tried. But when this is over and I stand before God He will say “My good and faithful servant” and that makes it all worth it!

So Tim, your basically saying that you’re not sure either, but just in case you’ll take the Bible’s side, because if you take my view and the Bible is right, you’re screwed.
Good plan. Why don’t you take the Muslim side? They may jaust as well be right. Or the Hindu side, they could be right?
Scientologists? Mormoms? Pick a religion or “Holy Book”
Why don’t you quit being a fucking moron and admit that there is no proof of any of this religious bullshit.
But continue your self delusion. I don’t give a fuck.

God is imaginary. That explains all inconsistancies the Bible. Is it any wonder why Your God always agrees with YOU and therefore it is easy to believe in? How about if the Bible and you didn’t agree on ANYTHING? Would you still believe in God? No matter how whacked out a religious nut is, HIS God always is guiding him. How can that possibly be? Charlie Manson, George Bush, Hitler, Stalin, Billie Graham and the woman that through her children into SF Bay a couple of years ago all claimed to have been guided by God. If ONE is wrong, then they all are wrong, for God couldn’t be talking to one of them if God wasn’t talking to all of them. Maybe all of them are liars? That would make more sense than God talking to all of them, now wouldn’t it.
